Tonight we visited the cental Asian hellhole of Uzbekistan, a. absolute dictatorship of brutal methods. Thousands of Uzbeks are locked up as dissidents each year; most are tortured, many are killed. The rational for this is that Uzbekistan must protect itself against the threat of Muslim terrorists.
The whistle blower on this was the British ambassador there Craig Murray. One night during his placement he met with one of the countries critics, an Academic. Several hours after they had met the Academics grandson was deliver to his house. The boy’s legs and arms were broken. His right hand had been boiled and a blow to the head had killed him.
Despite this when Murray went public with the story his own government turned against him, sacked him and spread rumours about his conduct.
And why does the west do nothing? Because Britain and America use intelligence that the Uzbeks collect under torture. America also has an air base in the strategically useful south of the country near Afghanistan and a comfortable flight from Russia and Iran. And it seems that America may be shipping in suspects from elsewhere for the Uzbeks to torture for them.
To use intelligence acquired by torture sullies a nation.
For shame Britain. For shame US.

As much as it sounds like sandstorming is now trying to get you to give some stange marketing company run out of some shady businessman’s office your details… we actually aren’t. Although if they pay good money… it might be a good idea. I’ll be honest though, here at sandstorming, we’d prefer you give the money straight to us. Or if you don’t feel like giving us money, give us the same details you’d give a shady freeipod business, and we can come to your house and get the money ourselves. Kidding. Or Maybe I’m not. The stand is a PDF image of how to turn some nice thick cardboard into a tres cool stand. Its released under creative commons (as is all of sandstorming) which means your free to use and alter it as you please, with some exceptions. It’s cool for all those uni students out there who can afford $600 for an iPOD, but not the $2 it would cost for a didgy mobile phone holder to store it on your desk. Ignoring all these factors… its damn cool… so go check it out… oh… and send us money. Not nessasarily in that order either. [Link]

BB is reporting that Cadbury has patented the colour purple in New Zealand. On the back of some of the cadbury products it now reads:
“Cadbury, ellipse device, dairy milk, the glass and a half device and THE COLOUR PURPLE are Cadbury Limited trademarks used under licence in New Zealand by Cadbury Confectionery Ltd.”
Thankfully it appears they haven’t had the same luck in Australia.

In other news,
truffulatree, another
Aussie blog has done a
humorous review on people found on google images dressed as Optimus Prime.
With thanks to /. here is an excellent reason why you don’t screw around with bloggers. A blogger who realised he had been a victim of credit card fraud managed to track down and have arrested the perpertrators within about 2 hours. Granted they don’t seem to have been the smartest of crooks, but it just goes to show bloggers aren’t all stupid.
And back in Australia, it appears the entire vampire population has a huge problem after $30,000 worth of garlic was stolen. News.com.au is reporting:
“A THIEF has stolen nearly $30,000 worth of garlic from a northern New South Wales property. About 110 bags of garlic were stolen from a shed at the property on Rigney Street, Brierfield, between Wednesday evening and Friday morning, police said today.”

I stumbled across a large flickr gallery that has a
huge gallery of transparent desktops. Basically what people do is take a photo of the area behind there monitor, and then set that as their desktop with the monitor replaced, giving the impression of a see through screen. A few of these are really, really well done.

Tupac/2pac has just released another album. It’s called Ready 2 Die, which is funny, cause I thought he was already dead.
Apparently it contains “More unreleased material from Pac!” I don’t know about you, but I’m getting kind of suss about all this unreleased material they keep “finding”. I mean, he died over 8 years ago. Apparently.
At least one Sandstorming reader believes he’s not really dead, but more like Jesus:
:Gangsta 69: Who da fuk is Johnsee? What sorta fukin ******* name is dat? Me an ma bruthaz think thiz site is ****e – made fo’ low life *****ez. Tupac tha God shall walk dis earth again!
[Courtesy of the Sandstorming Shoutbox]
I can just see it now:
And on the third day, he rose again and shouted, “Werrd up NIGGAZ! I just be playin’ wit chooz!”

Thirty of Australia’s longest-term immigration detainees are having their cases reviewed and could be freed because they have converted to Christianity since arriving.
The Federal Government has made the move quietly as it searches for a face-saving way to soften its policy on failed asylum seekers who have been in custody for more than three years, and cannot be repatriated to their countries of origin.
It follows strong lobbying efforts by several Government backbenchers, churches and the powerful Family First party for the Government to relax its refugee policy for Christian converts.
It also follows the case of one convert, deported from Baxter detention centre last October within a week after the election, and promptly interrogated in Iran for 48 hours before being charged with leaving the country illegally.
The case was taken up by Family First, whose spokeswoman, Andrea Mason, described the action as “repugnant”. The Government is keen to build bridges with Family First, which controls one vital vote in the Senate, where the Government has a majority of a single vote.
