The London Bombings: Who will Suffer?

July 7th, 2005 at 10:53 pm By admin (Around the World)

London Bombing PictureEarlier this evening (Australian time) several blasts rocked the London underground and at least one double decker bus. The blasts coincide with not only London winning its Olympic bid, but also the G8 meeting. Who is going to lose from all of this? London? US? What about Africa. As the Live8Live and One campaign has been drumming into us, someone dies there every three seconds from poverty. One person every 3 seconds… ~2 terrorism deaths in a hundred years in the UK? It’s crucial the world leaders don’t lose sight of the big issues.

2 loses in a bombing is a tragedy, Millions from poverty is a statistic. Poverty and famine are some of the problems of which terrorism stem.

On the same topic, more then this number die of bombing in Baghdad every day, yet they now fail to even reach the news. Human life really is no longer equal.

well said but about 38 people die. Somewhat insignificant considering londons population of 7000000 but still a loss. I think its not so much the number of casualties thats the problem but the event itself. U r very right in commenting on Baghdad and so on. Also, whilst i think its admarable what live 8 is trying to do, i think that rock stars and so forth dont quite understand what needs to be done. I think if the G8 was to go in and influence african politics there would be complaints from people with regard to influencing foreign countries but if they dont go in and do something then they are blamed for not doing anything. somewhat a double edged sword. Money obviously isnt enough anymore. Trillion dollars in 40 years and its worst now than what it was before. I think its one of lifes realities we wish wasnt there and we would all like to help prevent but putting actions into words is always tough. BTW…people like madonna have an income greater than the gdp of some of those countries…I find that sad.

    LOL @ FRANCE DID IT – N1

I personally dont like the G8 – there are problems with poverty all across countries – why are countries going to give billions and trillions of aid to countries when they’re own nations have alarming homelessness and poverty rates. Yes – i believe that it is truly unfair that people are made to suffer – but i think once you fix problems within countries which can help their own – THEN it becomes easier to help others.
