Rumour has it that this Vista is a stepping stone to a new kind of windows which abolishes the classical interface with ‘start’, utilising rotating pie-menus. Codenamed “blackcomb”.

hmm.

For those who havn’t watched the clip – it’s just a very basic demonstration of using win. Vista.

Z – you cant expect them to go into complete detail when its just a quick review of the beta version of the OS. All they wanted to show was that there are some new interface changes as far as file viewing and such is concerned.

I think that the content filters are a nice addition to the OS, however the filters will not gather information about your specific machine and the files the users have which may exceed specific classifications.

As for what you say about OS’s needing more expensive and powerful hardware – I think it doesn’t really mean much.

If you want such great layers of complexity then you should expect to pay for it. There are going to be lots of people who stick with XP or even 2000 because they dont have the need to change they’re operating systems and basically cant be stuffed paying money to run an OS that looks “pretty”.

nothing new about access rights really, mostly visual and functionability interface changes. Things are just in better places. Apart from the fact it runs at 64bits it is poo.

Not saying it is not a major improvment, but that it lacks the imagination to go into more impressive realms of functionality.

‘Aero’ interface can be done in xp with some simple mods. Calling it ‘next generation’ shits me, i think more appropriately it the last of this generation of OS’s -that is for microsoft. Most the changes make it more easy for computer illiterate people to understand and control their machines, which isn’t a bad thing. But if your a competent user, you will want to see where performance goes and whether you can customise your interface more. I hope it doesn’t infringe on users privacy by collating info on what you do, such features as content filters demonstrate that it might, this has long been a widespread concern.

One thing which really pissed me off about new OS’s is that they usually run SLOWER, so their is no improved performance, they demand so much more from graphics and cpu because of the extra layers of complexity, that everyone will need to upgrade to get the same speed they have now with xp.

Still it looks nice generally. I hope linux and mac keep up and compete though (Linux is moving 64bit too).
