April 17, 2005 Seiko Watch Corporation demonstrated the world’s first watch to utilize an electronic paper display for the first time at the Baselworld Watch and Jewelry Show held in Basel, Switzerland. The design incorporates an easy-to-read, ultra-thin, low-power display integrated into a curved band. The unique electronic paper display module in this Seiko watch is the result of a joint development effort, bringing together E Ink’s ‘electronic ink’ technology and Seiko Epson’s advanced display manufacturing and electronic circuitry techniques. When combined, these technologies offer a wide range of display design possibilities - including flexibility!

TSG looks at a couple of interesting NASA-related memos, one which anticipated the demise of the Apollo XI astronauts. Though the July 1969 mission proved a success, President Richard Nixon’s aides devised a contingency plan in case astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (and their lunar module) were somehow stranded on the moon. In the below memo, drafted two days before the Eagle landed, aide William Safire provided Nixon with a short speech to be delivered “In Event of Moon Disaster.” After making condolence calls to the “widows-to-be,” Nixon would have said, “Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace.” We’ve also included a second memo–prepared by NASA for the president and vice president–suggesting statements in the event of Apollo “crew fatalities.” The presidential lamentation ended by noting that the dead men “have followed a star, in night of space, and we for whom they went will not forget

AN Oklahoma man told US federal investigators he forgot a pipe bomb he built for fun was in his luggage when tried to board an airplane, according to court documents.
Charles Alfred Dreyling jnr, 24, was charged yesterday with trying to carry the bomb aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Oklahoma City to Atlanta on Wednesday, according to the documents.
Mr Dreyling was released yesterday on $US10,000 ($12,950) bail. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
FBI agents and Oklahoma City police officers said the pipe bomb contained a metal cartridge filled with gunpowder attached to a detonator made from model rocket parts, according to an affidavit filed by the FBI.
Mr Dreyling, a student at the University of Oklahoma, could have detonated the bomb using his cell phone battery, according to the affidavit.
He told investigators he made bombs for recreation and had recently set off several devices with friends in rural Oklahoma, according to the affidavit.

The IAEA is set to hold a final day of crisis talks in an effort to agree on what action to take following Iran’s decision to resume nuclear activities. The UN nuclear agency will discuss an EU-backed draft resolution calling on Iran to halt work at its Isfahan plant. Iran broke the UN seals on the nuclear facility this week, contravening an agreement made with the EU last year. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has called on European Union countries to continue their dialogue with Iran.
Pakistan has successfully test-fired its first ever ground-launched cruise missile, which is capable of carrying nuclear warheads, the military said. The military said that with the latest test, Pakistan had “joined a select group of countries which have the capability to design and develop cruise missiles”.
Iran starts to conserve Uranium… saying its purelly for peaceful purposes…
Pakistan, a country that already has nuclear weapons… fires a cruise missile saying it can hold a nuke…
And the world gets scared over Iran… Geddit? I don’t.

This is an really interesting little short film, entirely filmed in reverse. It’s basically someone knocking over piles of rock, but when you put that in reverse and do it right… its pretty amazing.
It’s also strangely relaxing too.

Perhaps the more we’re able to see, the less we choose to see. There are so many activities to get lost in these days… Where at one time, at least a few of your friends were watching the same programming as you last night, now you’d be hard pressed to find anyone at all that had even been watching at that time.
Take for example, this clip featuring, none other than, Gandhi himself! The commercial explores the possibility of messages as those spoken by Gandhi to be broadcasted to millions simultaneously and how that may have changed the world. The idea is that we’d be a bit more receptive to what we’ve never been ready to hear…
Worthy of a bookmark.

Someone posted this photo up on digg and I have to say it’s just incredible.
Although the post only included a link to the single photo a big of digging on google revealed a snoped entry on the topic.
The photos are taken from Switzerland.
One of the local Swiss newspapers reported that:

The cold did not save sailing ships moored in the ports of Léman. In Geneva, several boats sank under the weight of the ice. Several minor roads were closed, passage having been made impossible by the ice and the snowdrifts. In downtown Geneva, Servette Street was closed after the rupture of a water pipeline transformed the roadway into a true skating rink.

Dear A:
Out of respect for you, I didn’t include your name. I probably should have, as you had absolutely no respect for me during our breakup last year. I don’t really have to worry about your running across this letter, but hey, you might. Maybe you’re starting a new porn site or something. I just wanted to ask, and think out loud – why do I still miss you, and love you? True, we were together for nearly five years, we moved cross-country together twice, and we owned a dog together (which you stole). But, you left without saying goodbye, broke my heart without an explanation, and already had another boyfriend before I found out we were truly broken up. You also cheated on me, and led me on like a puppet for nearly 8 months.
