Why the rest of the world thinks Americans are Idiots
The video off CNNN pretty much sums up what the general public seems to be feeling for Americans at the moment. Before anyone from America (ok the ‘US’) gets too angry, YES this is a huge generalisation, but I think the video shows just how self-centred some Americans are.

I know, as an American, it’s impossible to defend our stupidity. Look at our literacy rate and our education system. It’s horrendous. Fortunately, I was able to live in an affluent suburb where the education system was one of the best in the state. But, not everyone has that luxury.

There used to be a television show here in Canada called TALKING TO AMERICANS. I don’t remember if it was an hour or half hour long but it was very entertaining. In the first five minutes you’d be thinking “boy… is that ever dumb!!” and then it just got dumber and dumber.

I’m not defending the U.S. government at all. Although as an Americunt, as you put it, I would have to put into question the maturity and validity of your arguments. As much as we all think we know, we have to realize that there are ideas and perspectives that we will never fully understand. Laughable at best are the majority of americans they still boast they beat England in the war of independance although the English won nearly every major battle bar 1. We simply had more important things like the french yes napoleon was considered more formidable and worth our effort so we left you guys to do what you wanted. Had the war happened 10 years before or 10 years after and we could commit our generals and resources properly it would of been put down and sorted. I’m English, (just to get that point across before what I am about to say)
I have spent time in US for a number of reasons and found most people polite and helpful and certainly no worse than many people from the UK, one thing that stands out a MILE about America is how little they know about the world outside their own borders. They like to know about their own history and don’t give a crap about anyone else’s, as part of my history GCSE last year the only thing we learn t that was solely about the UK was the Liberal Reforms between the 1st and 2nd world wars… The other topics where all about the World wars, Korea, Vietnam (which most Americans will claim they won which they most certainly did not) and Russia during and after the Cold War.
Which is the other thing that annoys me about America’s Foreign Policy (not an attack on Americans but I would like to know other peoples (especially if an American reads this) opinion) that they seem to thing they are the world police… Does anyone else see the similarities of Russia forcing communism on the Eastern Block countries and America forcing democracy on the middle east? Team America much?
In my view the reason everyone thinks Americans are Stupid is because they know nothing about the rest of the world. For instance “Oh no petrol (gas) is at almost $4 a gallon” Here in the UK we pay £1.12/L which is about $8.32/US Gallon

As an American, I can say the there are many things for which I am not proud of in regards to my governments domestic and foreign policies. It seems to me that most resentment from those living outside the United States is mainly aimed at our government policies for which the average American has little influence in. How is it that these anti-American criticisms can be targeted to all Americans when indeed all American’s are NOT the same. Being a respectful and educated person, I would not condemn the people of any country based on its government’s political agendas. Furthermore, it is ignorant to slander others and call them ridiculous names to prove your point. This shows that you are the ignorant and uneducated person. Having traveled abroad on numerous accessions, I can attest that I have always been treated with kindness and generosity. When we stop blaming each other for our government’s decisions, we realize that we are indeed, people. As an American, I respect and embrace the cultures of others. In fact, while abroad, I strictly adhere and try to immerse myself in that culture with respect and understanding for its people. Moreover, in regards to all of those who seem to believe that all American’s are ignorant and uneducated, why is it that so many foreigners come to my country and to America’s Universities for an education? For being a country of so called “idiots” we seem to attract many foreigners from around the world while providing one of the most sought after higher-learning educations. Simply put, it makes me sick when American’s or foreigners alike have such resentment for each other. Either you can choose to be ignorant and continue to slander, or be respectful of others, their countries and their ways of life. Being an American, I do not feel superior or any more important than any other person. Unfortunately, living in a country that receives so much international resentment and criticism, I have come to understand why so many abroad feel the way they do about America. Not all American’s are selfish and careless. At least I can speak for myself when I say that I truly care about other countries, their people, and their cultures.

Clearly you must either be joking or incredibly ignorant in your ridiculous projections towards America. Did you forget, America was founded on the basis of freedom from persecution of ENGLAND! If we wanted to chance our culture to be like yours, we would have stayed in England! Interestingly enough is the fact that the original colonists, English men, women, and children, disowned their home country for good reason I might add. Moreover, in your crude and preposterous rants about America’s UNITED States, I can appreciate why you harbor such resentment and nominate your “Queen” on our behalf. Perhaps, this roots from England’s past where its once vast empire prospered only to have dwindled down to a small piece of land surrounded by the sea. It must not be easy to accept such a travesty. To be fair, the USA as a nation are well, idiots. It seems to me that they have been bought up caring more about ‘freedom’ and being a ‘patriot’. The people to blame here are the older generations and the government. Freedom should come second to an at least decent health care and education. Instead of ‘policing’ the world shouldn’t they be worrying about what’s happening on their streets? The whole world should be banning the owning of guns outside the police force and army and the americans seem to almost encourage the owning of guns? Hasn’t anyone in the USA been listening to Michael Moore, he been talking about the problems of the USA for ages, the government has completely ignored him, yes he may gloss over some of the facts but the message is still there. Look at the columbine murders and even Dick Cheney shooting his friend in the face, no good can come from civilians owning guns. Whilst taking a plane back from Nantes (France) i was joined by an American (from California) at the check in desk. He asked me whether he needed a passport to trave across the EU and i said yes, it seemed fair enough anyone could make that mistake, he then went on to ask me whether the USA was in the UN. I was shocked to hear his lack knowledge of his own country. When we landed at Stanstead i saw him try to go through the check out labeled “EU Passport” he got sent away to the other check out grumbling about how they had ‘tricked’ him. This was a perfect example of the paranoia of the USA. I am from Hawaii, and I consider myself a Hawaiian National, NOT an american. america invaded Hawaii and overthrew the Hawaiian Kingdom and imprisoned our Queen in 1893. They then violated their own constitution and fraudulently annexed Hawaii against the wishes of its people and in violation of International Law and several treaties then in effect. Just look at the garbage they watch on the television. Looking at their news everyday just makes me sick. Healthcare, education, just basic government functions, they can’t seem to get right. They worry about things that don’t really matter, like “my mobile phone doesn’t match my shoes”! while there are people who are homeless, jobless, etc. What pisses me off, and they think this is funny, is when they come to Hawaii and see people who are “brown” they automatically think they are mexicans. What fucking idiots! americans are hypocrites, they know what they did in 1893 was illegal, not to mention morally wrong, yet they continue to occupy Hawaii and think everyone is happy with the current situation, but they condemn and go to war with other countries who do the same. …everyone around me is a fucking idiot. True, there are exceptions all around, but the majority of people, male or female, lack the discipline, knowledge, and character to be decent human beings.
There is a definite lack of critical thinking, care for another, friendship, common sense, and sense of identity with most people. Since America is ran on the basis of Greed and consumerism, it’s no suprise that most people revolve their everyday activity around those qualities. Everything negative branches from those ideals, and as we near a time of globalization, Americans are VERY ill prepared to deal with the impending crisises.
As for the concept of “Freedom”, what most fail to realize is that powerful business organizations, government officials, and those who know human psychology are using their knowledge of the american people to imprison them financially, socially, and emotionally, through uses of money, division, and promotion of greed.
Of course, most of the opinions written here are ridiculous and opinionated, with no semblance of credibility whatsoever. (Read: Most of you are fucking morons). If you can think, you’ll understand that, yes, while America is filled to the brim with brainless animals, make sure you’ve researched WHY. (The reason being, if you didn’t pay attention, GREED and CONSUMERISM).

I am an American, and believe me, I grew up with my fair share of idiots. Since then, I’ve travelled frequently, and found that every nation I’ve been to has it’s pros and cons, same as America.
Speaking of the pros and cons of America, it is true that we have a beurocratic government that is very much in need of reform, but our diversity is astounding. Take a look at New York City – blacks, whites, Latinos, Asians, artists, humanitarians, businessmen and women working together to make something wonderful, a way of life (and yes, a culture, though some would doubt we have that) that is purely our own.
We’ve been at the forefront of human rights, although we may poke our noses in other people’s business too often.
I will not be arrogant and boast that America is the best nation in the world, but we are ONE OF the most powerful.
We have significant sway over world affairs. Our economy suffers. So does yours.
We are involved in a war that many of you may not agree with, but let’s not forget about the THIRTY-THREE other countries that are fighting alongside Americans.
When you feel like bashing the war again, think of the 3000 people that were killed by terrorists in 9/11.
War was the only option. We couldn’t just sit down and talk it out with Osama.
Granted, it has gone on far too long, and the reasons have morphed into an unneccessarily broad stereotype of an impossible ‘war on terror’. But honestly, the American people are powerless to stop it if we wanted to!
Now, as I’ve said, I’ve done some travelling, and I can sincerely say that I have met complete dumbasses on each continent – Canadian dumbasses, British dumbasses, Brazillian dumbasses, Australian dumbasses, Taiwanese dumbasses, and my favorite, that one Indian dumbass who asked me why there was a button for the top floor of the elevator ’since we were already there’.
Here’s a fact for you. Birth and borders do not determine A. a person’s intelligence quotient, or B. their worth.
People have been people since the dawn of time, and people are the same today, everywhere. Cultures provide minor changes, but human nature and personality types stay the same.
A person who wants to learn, nomatter what the country will, and idiots will remain idiots.
America is just another country, one of the most powerful in the world albeit. That is one of the reasons people enjoy poking fun at it.
Why do we try to find flaws in celebrities and our politicians? Why do we love a good scandal in our rich and famous?
It cuts down on that power.
That is my 2 cents on why some people say what they do about America, not my country exclusively, but ONE of my countries (I prefer to think of myself as a citizen of the world).
So stop spouting out insults to a nation who based its ideas on freedom, equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They may not have achieved it, but the best in America still believes it to the core and is trying its damned hardest to get there.
Get over your silly prejudices that you did not come up with, but rather learned, and try to see the good. It’s a lot more rewarding.

I honestly used to think only about 5 percent of our population was horrid, but I now think it’s closer to 60 percent. I’m a US citizen, and I agree that there are many stupid people in the US. Too many, perhaps (after all, GW did get elected…. TWICE!). However, I’m willing to bet there are just as many idiots in most of the countries that all the people who have commented on this blog are from. There are morons in every country, just as there are intelligent people in every country. This video isn’t a comment on just Americans, it’s a comment on the human race. The only difference is that the stupid people in America get a lot more attention focused on them because the US is (for now) the most powerful country in the world.
I’d like to see this sort of interview conducted in Moscow, London or Paris. I’ll bet the results would be similar.
Also, I doubt that the people that were interviewed in this video are really representative of the US population as a whole. Seems to me that the interviewer was seeking out people who just looked like they were kind of stupid. That’s not a very objective way to conduct an interview.

Let’s take this all back to the video. The videographers didn’t hand pick the select few idiots they could find – Americans really are that dumb. You need only spend a little time here, or in my case, too much time, for it to become painfully obvious. Sure, they produce a number of intelligent people – they should, there’s 300+ million of them, sooner or later a smart one has to come out.
