I found this really interesting, it shows the huge size difference between the next-gen consoles, the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Revolution:

Sin City II Plot Revealed

December 16th, 2005 at 12:35 pm by johnsee (Movies)

Sin City has to be one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Using a graphic novel style and a huge cast of A-List stars, its incredible story had be glued to my seat for hours. Now Sin City II is in preproduction, and the stoyline has now been released:

"It’s one of those hot nights, dry and windless. The kind that makes people do sweaty, secret things. Dwight’s thinking of all the ways he’s screwed up and what he’d give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb gray hell that is his life. And he’d give anything. Just to cut loose. Just to feel the fire. One more time."

Sandstorming Live!

December 14th, 2005 at 7:40 pm by johnsee (Site News, Online, Tech & Science)

As a bit of a followup on yesterday’s article on firefox, I’d like to show you how you can use Firefox’s livebookmarks, in order to get sandstorming stories added directly to your toolbar!

This is what you need to click.

The first think you need to do is to add the feed. This can be done easily by clicking the RSS feed button on the right side of your address bar (see the image to the right). If you are using a version of firefox older than 1.5, you will find the feed button down the bottom right hand corner of your browser, and then select suscribe to RSS 2.0. Once you have completed this incredibly difficult pisseasy task, select ‘Bookmark Toolbars Folder’ from the resulting drop down list, and click ok.That’s it, your done! Sandstorming RSS feeds can be used with lots of other services as well, including google’s personalised homepage, yahoo and many other feed management services.

I now use google’s homepage in order to organize my feeds, as I’m finiding I have too many for my toolbar, it also allows you to add in a few other great features like weather in a great personalised start page. If you’re looking to add some feeds to firefox, or even to any other feedreader, here’s a few of my favourites: (you’ll notice them as sources for many of sandstorming’s stories) Next Generation , Techcrunch , Slyck , AtomicMPC , Wired , /. , Digg as well as serveral google and Aussie news feeds.

Make Your Own Ice Shotglasses

December 14th, 2005 at 12:12 pm by johnsee (Tech & Science)

Elephant staircase has an excellent guide to creating shotglasses made out of ice. Personally, I think this is up their on the coolness level of spiderman, and can think of nothing cooler to shot a cool drink out of then a cool icey shot glass. I’d love to know if anyone has any success in creating these, but I plan to give it a shot myself sometime soon. In other news, I promise updates daily for at least a week. Maybe even two a day to make up for my laziness.

Firefox Fanboy Push

December 13th, 2005 at 9:14 am by johnsee (Online, Tech & Science)

More than 8000 people have viewed sandstorming in the past week using Internet Explorer. I’m not sure why people still use Internet Explorer, whether it’s pure ignorance that there is anything better, or whether the whole idea of spending 15 minutes to learn a new program scares them. It’s like riding your bike to work every day, when your next door neighbour has already offered you his Ferrari.

Why do you need Firefox? Here are the reasons that Lifehacker suggests, and I agree with them! So by God, stop reading and click the link below. Let us know what you think too!

  • It’s free. Completely, utterly free. You don’t have to pay a penny to download it. Firefox is a product of the Mozilla foundation, a tax exempt non-profit foundation, which was established to create innovative open-source software. Mozilla is completely funded by donations. So if you like Firefox—and I bet you will—consider throwing a few dollars in their direction.
  • It runs on everything. Windows? Yes. Macs? Yes. Linux? Yes. You’ve got a recent computer? Firefox will almost certainly run on it.
  • It’s small. It takes up very little disk space, so it’s a quick, simple download. Unlike certain other browsers, it’s not a bloated dinosaur.
  • It’s expandable. You can add almost any functionality you want via plug-ins. There’s a huge community of Firefox developers out there offering nifty software extensions that you just plug into your browser. You can remove Google spam. You can adjust the way your fonts are shown. You can watch the current weather forecast. Firefox’s extensions manager lets you see what items you’ve installed and you can remove them with just a few clicks.
  • It’s secure. Firefox doesn’t run ActiveX components or VB script. This makes it far less vulnerable to malicious hacking than Explorer. Also, it’s been tightly coded, meaning fewer vulnerabilities to attack. Want more security? Consider adding a JavaScript monitoring extension.
  • Switching is easy. Firefox is smart enough to help you transfer your existing bookmarks, cookies and other settings from your current browser when you install.
  • It’s skinnable. Firefox’s look and feel is completely customizable. Use the Themes Manager to download and manage any of hundreds of skins.
  • Google is built-in. You don’t have to waste your homepage on Google, when you can search directly from the Firefox control bar. Go ahead and pick a home page you really like.
  • It’s well respected. Firefox has been named PC World’s Product of the Year, Softpedia’s User’s Choice, Forbes’ Best of the Web, SC Magazine’s “Editor in Chief” award, CNET Editor’s Choice, Laptop Magazine Editor’s Choice, PC-Welt’s Readers Choice Best Internet Tool, and more. They all like it. Won’t you?
  • It’s got tabs. If you’ve ever dealt with a gadzillion open Explorer windows at once, you’ll know what I mean when I say that organizing your Web tasks and windows is a critical path for getting work done. Firefox’s tabbed interface allows you to collapse all those windows onto a single screen and move quickly (and easily) back and forth between your different Web site “worlds”. One site still downloading? Just tab on over to another in the meantime. It works beautifully, compactly and neatly.

Live Sail Die

December 10th, 2005 at 2:33 pm by johnsee (Site News, Australia, Around the World)

The usual daily sandstorming articles haven’t been quite as consistent over the past few weeks, as I’ve been spending a huge amount of time trying to get a new site off the ground. It’s a bit different from the random news of sandstorming, it’s more of an online boating and sailing community. Now whilst I don’t think that’s going to interest 99% of the readers of sandstorming, I’d love for you to check it out and give me some feedback. Apart from daily news about everything from the Americas Cup to the Sydney to Hobart, its a fully featured community with forums, galleries, directory, calendar and more! Feel free add your site to the directory! So go and check it out, it’s a far cry from sandstorming, but it’s shaping up to be great!

X-Men 3 in US cinemas May 26.

December 6th, 2005 at 12:58 am by JuLz (Movies)

The Mutants of X-Men, have returned and as expected their numbers continue to grow, as will be seen in the third installment, due may 26.

Fraiser’s Kelsey Grammer has been set to star as the Blue-Haired Uber Hero, Beast
(I think he was an awesome choice for beast).

One of the other new additions will be Vinnie Jones to play the part of Juggernaut and Ben Foster to play Angel. News of the movie hasn’t spread properly yet, however it is expected that the third film in the series experience higher box office ratings than its predecessors.
